Carbon reduction at no extra cost: How TFC leverages Biofuel Swap to support their clients’ decarbonisation
TFC is a comprehensive fuel card provider with a robust presence across Europe, offering over 5,000 fuel acceptance points in 20 countries.
The company is also a member of the Allowing Capital Group. Known for its one-stop-shop approach, TFC supports small to mid-sized companies in the transportation sector with cost-effective refueling options within an extensive European network, along with additional services such as toll solutions, VAT and excise duty refunds, parking, and truck wash access—all managed seamlessly under one roof.
Led by CEO Alexander Zandbergen, TFC has continuously expanded its offerings to help clients meet evolving sustainability expectations.
Join Alexander as he shares insights into TFC's partnership with FincoEnergies and the successful integration of Biofuel Swap into their decarbonisation toolkit.
Sustainability ambitions and the role of Biofuel Swap
TFC’s commitment to sustainability extends across all aspects of its services, with a clear focus on achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. The company has begun significant green initiatives, such as building 4,000 charging points in Poland and developing the TFC charge tag for accessible, continent-wide electric vehicle charging.
As part of their decarbonisation journey, TFC introduced Biofuel Swap from FincoEnergies—a solution that allows their clients to efficiently reduce carbon emissions, even if they do not yet have direct access to HVO100.
Addressing the decarbonisation challenges for TFC’s clients
For TFC’s clients, balancing sustainability goals with operational demands is often challenging. With Biofuel Swap, TFC offers a solution that enables small and mid-sized businesses to meet sustainability requirements without additional infrastructure investments.
“For many of our clients, it’s not feasible to establish their own reduction strategies,” says Alexander.
Biofuel Swap’s certificate system is instrumental in helping TFC’s clients demonstrate their carbon reduction efforts, even if not all customers require or are willing to pay for green fuel alternatives. The solution makes it possible for smaller fleets to adjust their offerings flexibly, based on customer demand, making it easier to justify premium charges for eco-conscious clients.
Flexibility in logistics and immediate carbon impact
Biofuel Swap has introduced new flexibility for TFC’s clients, who often operate in mixed-service environments. Instead of attempting to allocate green fuel specifically per client—which would be challenging, as a single truck load may serve multiple customers with different fuel preferences—Biofuel Swap offers a practical solution.
For instance, if one customer wants to reduce emissions while the others continue with conventional fuel, it’s not feasible to divide a single fuel tank accordingly. With Biofuel Swap, however, TFC’s clients can calculate the required green kilometers for specific customers and offset the emissions accordingly. This makes the sustainability aspect of logistics both manageable and visible.
HVO100 is particularly advantageous here, as it integrates easily into existing truck infrastructure and doesn’t require major investments.
TFC and FincoEnergies: A partnership for sustainable growth
TFC's partnership with FincoEnergies has been instrumental in shaping the company’s approach to sustainable fuel solutions. Regular discussions have fostered a close collaboration on both strategic fuel card acceptance and biofuel initiatives. FincoEnergies extends beyond a typical partnership by providing additional information, sharing knowledge, and even joining TFC in meetings with potential customers to explore the Biofuel Swap solution.
“Our partnership with FincoEnergies allows us to continually improve our services, whether through Biofuel Swap or other fuel acceptance solutions,” says Alexander. TFC has received enthusiastic responses from clients who see Biofuel Swap as an immediate, low-investment pathway to meet their decarbonisation goals.
Looking to the future, TFC envisions a complete transition to sustainable fuel options across Europe.
“By 2050, I believe all fuels will be sustainable—HVO, hydrogen, or others. I’m confident that FincoEnergies will play a leading role in this transition,” - Alexander concludes. The positive feedback TFC has received from clients integrating Biofuel Swap into their sustainability plans underscores the solution’s value in supporting a low-carbon future today.
